I love to read mainly mysteries but some horror. I share my love of reading with my Mom and we both exchange books and do reviews for several websites.

Bernice Hogan was a young woman with a very sad life that she had tried to overcome.  She was put up for adoption and later abused by her foster father.   Bernice did not let that stop her.  She went to college and nearly finished a degree in nursing.  In college she was drugged and raped at a party.  After that Bernice gave up and started taking drugs.  When she didn’t have enough money for the drugs, she turned to prostitution.

Jolene Peller is a single mom who pulled herself up out of this life.  She was getting ready to go to Florida to try to start a new life for her and her son.  She was a friend to Bernice and was trying to get her straight and back on the right track.

Karl Styebeck is a hero cop who donates his time working with charity groups to help girls like Bernice and Jolene.  But he is living a lie and will do almost anything to protect it, his wife and young son.

Jack Gannon is a reporter for the Buffalo Sentinel and is at work when the police scanner begins to have a lot of chatter about a body being found.  The person that is supposed to be working the cop desk is not there so Jack goes out in hunt of the story.  The body is that of Bernice Hogan, who has been brutally murdered.  While working on this story, Jack soon finds out that another girl, Jolene Peller, has gone missing and was last seen talking to Bernice Hogan.   One of Jack’s informants tells him that Karl Styebeck appears to be the last person to be seen with Bernice.

When Jack breaks the story that Karl Styebeck is currently suspected of murdering Bernice Hogan, his career takes a nose dive.  Jack refuses to reveal his source of this information to his boss and his story is retracted and he gets fired from the newspaper.  Jack Gannon cannot let go of this story even now that he is jobless.  He feels for these girls and knows that Karl is hiding something.  So Jack continues to investigate on his own.

Rick Mofina has written another fast paced, page turner in Vengeance Road.  You will want to read it yourself to find out what happens to Jolene Peller, the killer’s other victims and Jack Gannon and if one of Karl Styebeck’s secrets is that he is the murder.  I look forward to more great reads from Rick Mofina.
