“The Breakthrough in Two Acts” by Fredric C. Hartman, Ph.D. is an inspired new way of thinking of healing emotional pain. The fresh perspective Dr. Hartman provides is a powerful tool for everyone to use to find greater peace and serenity in daily life.
Dr. Hartman breaks open the box of traditional psychotherapy and offers new ideas and thoughts for the reader to digest regarding painful pasts that keep us all suffering needlessly. This book is broken into two sections, called scenes. The first scene is all about human suffering and what is really going on. The pain comes from childhood needs that were not met in the form of “perfect love.” Disappointment, irritation, anger and fear can overcome life when our present moment isn’t exactly what is wanted.
One of the biggest lessons I learned from this book is that in order to heal, individuals need to look inside themselves, and not to the world for healing. I have noticed a huge difference in myself and my emotions just due to my newfound awareness of where they are coming from. As an example, road rage is a challenge I tackle everyday in traffic, and while I still get flaring emotions when other drivers are not doing what I want them to do, I am able to recognize my emotions from the past surfacing to add fuel to the fire. My road rage has nearly disappeared after reading this book.
I highly recommend everyone read “The Breakthrough in Two Acts” by Fredric C. Hartman, Ph.D. because it’s an eye opener in so many ways. I have struggled with painful past emotions that show up in my everyday life, and this book has given me the insight as well as some tools, to heal from the inside rather than look outside myself for relief. I plan to keep this book as a reference for when I need reminders for healing. Psychotherapists should all read this book so they also have the tools for helping their clients heal. This book has been a life changer for me already!
